Canary in the coalmine: why the BMA is wrong on gender dysphoria

In common with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, anyone concerned for patient safety should be surprised and disappointed at the decision of the BMA to ‘publicly critique the Cass Review’. In my role as President of HealthSense I led a a six-month review of gender dysphoria treatments compiled before the final Cass Report and found that the evidence base was poor for most clinical interventions. The principal medical approaches to trans recall other treatments once championed by clinicians which turned out to be useless or harmful. Indeed, the ratio of known risks to proven benefits in gender reassignment would be considered clearly unacceptable in any other field of medicine. See the full report here.
